Field sketching one-day workshop with Tom Whiley
19/04/2024 10:00 – 15:00
Sculthorpe Moor Nature Reserve (Norfolk)
Members £30 Non-members £35
During this workshop we will look at the internal structure of birds and their feather zones, applying this to sketching species from life at Sculthorpe Moor.
We will include the species' preferred habitat and the landscape within the field sketch, to give an impression of its place in the environment at the Reserve.
Techniques to improve speed of field sketching will be investigated. These techniques will be related to the client's vision of their own finished artwork and style.
Equipment to bring: Up to A3 sketch pad and preferred medium. Shoulder bag or ruck-sack. Telescope and tripod would be helpful, binoculars essential.
Tom has been field sketching and painting birds he has observed for the last 50 years. He has been widely published in the birding press and wildlife reports and
has designed and produced wildlife interpretation for several Societies' and Trusts' projects.
He studied Fine Art at Exeter University in the early nineties and now lives and works in North Norfolk.
Current work mainly focuses on rare bird ID plates constructed from field notes and sketches in combination with the wonders of modern digital photography.
